We first met Karl in Kingston, Jamaica, when we were holding a recruitment drive for a multi-academy trust. Karl relocated to Surrey and took up his post as a teacher of mathematics in a large secondary school.
We were delighted to hear that Karl had been recognised as the Harris Federation’s overall ‘Transforming Lives as a Teacher’ winner. His head teacher said: “Since joining us, Karl has been reflective of his teaching and is ambitious for his students. They know he cares about them and wants them to achieve. Karl is an outstanding maths teacher and a fantastic member of the team.”
Karl remembers:
“The past three years have come with their challenges. However, I have never felt alone. Hourglass gave me the support and information I needed to settle into my new role.”

The majority of the roles we work on are permanent teaching posts in secondary schools in the south east of England.
Ambition comes in all shapes and sizes. For some teachers, it’s all about the subject, but for others, moving up the career ladder means taking on management responsibilities.
Our role is to provide teachers with exactly what they need to relocate and thrive in the most exciting teaching opportunities in the UK.
Overseas recruitment is hotting up at Hourglass! Many of our client schools are already coming to us with their burning questions.
It may not be rocket science – or even GCSE physics – but deciding where to live in the UK can be a tricky decision to make.
Teachers can often find themselves in a ‘catch22’ situation when it comes to lesson planning. Delivering high-quality lessons requires careful preparation and detailed planning especially if you’re adjusting to the curriculum. However, while managing international relocation as well as a challenging workload, teachers might find planning to be time-consuming and burdensome.
