Yes. Hourglass consultants focus on permanent teaching roles in secondary schools, as well as leadership opportunities. If you’re ready for your next step, permanent recruitment is at the heart of what we do.

Yes. Many of the vacancies we handle are “roles with responsibility,” such as head of year, subject lead, or second in department. These posts are often ideal stepping stones for teachers who are aiming for middle or senior leadership in the future.

Your consultant will take the time to understand your career goals and match you with roles that not only suit your skills now but also help you build the experience you’ll need for the next stage of your career.

Yes. Every teacher who registers with Hourglass has access to a dedicated consultant who acts as a mentor and careers adviser. We don’t just match you with vacancies – we take the time to understand your skills, experience and aspirations, then help you shape a clear career path.

That might include practical support like CV advice and interview preparation, or a more strategic conversation about where you want your teaching career to go next. We’ll work alongside you to make sure the roles you consider fit with your goals, whether that’s stepping into leadership, moving schools for better progression, or finding the right permanent post where you can thrive.

We have strong, long-standing relationships with schools and trusts across England. This means we often know about vacancies before they’re advertised — and we can give you insights, advice and personalised support you won’t get by applying alone.

At Hourglass, we specialise in permanent and leadership roles. If you’re looking for day-to-day or longer-term temporary or fixed-term contracts (typically 6 weeks or longer), our sister company, Pertemps Education, will be able to help.

Most of our client schools are in London, the south-east and Home Counties. However, we also support schools across England, so let us know your preferred location.

Pay varies depending on your experience, responsibilities and the school location. Your consultant will always be clear and upfront about the salary attached to each role.
