Union JackOur priority when helping schools with the recruitment of teachers is to seek and locate teachers already living in the UK, whether they are UK trained or they gained their qualifications overseas.

In order to present schools with suitably qualified and experienced teachers, we work proactively to find teachers who are available throughout the UK, encouraging them to consider relocation where necessary in order to help with teacher recruitment in the south of the UK.

Our experienced consultants have diverse methods of locating teachers and will register them efficiently in order to submit them for your consideration as soon as possible.

We only ask that you review the applications in a timely manner as the better teachers will not be available for your consideration for long.

Once you have assessed an application, we will call you to find out if you would like to set up an interview with the applicant. If you are looking to proceed we will need to determine the type of interview you want us to arrange.

Face to face interview

Most schools will require applicants to attend for an interview at the school as this is the best way to assess the suitability of a teacher for the requirements of your vacancy. The teachers will be aware of this and, in the majority of circumstances; this would be an essential requisite for them too.

Trial day

Many of our client schools want to observe a teacher in a classroom situation where they are teaching a group of students a specified teaching content, which we always encourage. This would generally entail arranging a ‘trial day’ for which the teacher would require payment. Some of our teachers, especially those who need to relocate for a suitable teaching position, favour this arrangement.

Telephone or Skype interview

Some schools like to arrange a telephone or Skype interview; this is usually an initial call prior to arranging a face to face interview, although some schools and teachers are happy to make and accept an appointment on the basis of such an interview. Schools and teachers need to acknowledge that any appointments made in this way are their responsibility, as Hourglass would always recommend a face to face interview where this is a viable option.

Post-placement compliance

Once you and the teacher have agreed terms and the appointment has been confirmed, we will work hard to ensure that the teacher you have appointed is fully legally compliant in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education July 2015 legislation, allowing them to start their teaching position on the agreed start date.

We occasionally require help from the school in the unusual circumstance that a teacher is reluctant to comply with our requests.

When the compliance process has been completed we will notify you and are always happy to provide the school with document checklists to demonstrate full compliance. Where a school require a full set of verified documents, we will provide this once we have received permission from the teacher.
