About Us

Our History

We consider ourselves to be unique within the educational recruitment industry; Geoff and Louise Brown, the founders of Hourglass Education have a combined experience of over 20 years within Education Recruitment. In addition to this valuable experience and prior to working within recruitment, both Geoff and Louise were educationalists employed within mainstream education, holding posts of: teacher, deputy head, headteacher and Local Authority advisor.

Consultants working for Hourglass Education have experience in both education recruitment and the private sector; this brings a breadth of experience and professionalism to our services to schools and teachers.

What makes Hourglass Education different?

We are proud to assert that education underpins everything we do within our company; our directors’ education background helps us to match our teachers to prospective teaching posts with great care and consideration, ensuring that their professional and personal skills and strengths address the needs of the school, taking in to consideration their experience, qualifications and any stated preferences. We ensure that we acquire an enhanced understanding of the needs of the schools; its education philosophy, pupil profile and teaching and learning environment, prior to selecting and matching appropriate teachers for any vacant posts.

At Hourglass Education we demonstrate a professional approach throughout and beyond the recruitment process and genuinely care about and support the teachers and schools we serve. Each teaching candidate we register is assigned to a dedicated consultant who interviews and processes their application. As well as promoting this teacher to schools with vacancies, this consultant will also ensure that other consultants are aware of the teacher’s professional profile, enabling all consultants to work proactively on the teacher’s behalf.

Hourglass Education consultants regularly interview teachers throughout the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland and Jamaica, who are seeking long term and permanent teaching positions throughout England, so schools can be sure that we have a large number of appropriately qualified and experienced teachers to fill all vacancies.

Our service to you

When a teacher or school contacts Hourglass Education, we work hard to establish a firm professional relationship based on an in-depth knowledge of our customers, both teachers and schools. This ensures that the personalised service we give is tailored to your needs at every step of the recruitment process. So whether you’re a teacher looking for suitable teaching post in England or a head teacher seeking dedicated and experienced, high quality teaching staff, you are guaranteed the best possible service from Hourglass Education.

Our dedicated service to you does not stop once an Hourglass teacher has been appointed. We contact the teacher on a weekly basis to make sure that they are progressing well with their assignment and working happily and successfully within the school. We also communicate regularly with our designated school contact to ensure that the teacher is fulfilling the expectations and requirements of the position.

The recruitment process

During the recruitment process we will vet our teachers thoroughly, ensuring that we are assured of a teacher’s authenticity, skills and experience prior to matching them carefully to appropriate vacancies within schools.

Whether a school has a vacancy of a few weeks or an entire year, our stringent procedures and the experience and expertise of our consultants will ensure that the best possible available teachers are put forward to the most appropriate vacancies.

Quality Mark

As a recently established agency, Hourglass Education is committed to gaining DfCSF recognition and is working towards acquiring the DfCSF Quality Mark as a matter of priority. This will demonstrate to schools and teachers our dedication to reaching our maximum professional potential, working to highest standard of recruitment practices.
